High Timber to Sunset Trail loop near the Jennings Randolph Lake. It was constructed by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in 1981 when the dam was built to make a freshwater reservoir and to control flooding on the North Branch of the Potomac River. There is a huge variety of wildflowers and deciduous trees along the trail, including Chestnut Oak, Red Maple, and many more. The High Timber to Sunset Trail offers many wildlife, anything from a snapping turtle to a bald eagle or black bear. Proper footwear is recommended as the trail traverses fairly rough terrain. Be sure to wear long pants to ward off ticks. Trails are only accessible when the campground is open.
